Antes que nada un ‘Happy New Year’ a todos de los miembros de la Peña Pimpollo, y concretamente Julio Baptista por su golazo en el Camp Nou (¡insiste Pimpollo que diga este!). Han pasado cuatro semanas sin mi droga de la Preferente, dos de ellas pasado en Austria donde me di cuenta que mi alemán sea peor que mi castellano (increíble, pero verdad), y pudo sentarme a 2000m en la nieve y pensar del gol de Nene y las expresiones de los Javeamigogillipoll………….De todas formas se arranque el partido, me pensaba ¿dónde está Joano? Y la única que pueda escuchar era la grita familiar de ¡hostia! Y Tomas ha hecho una parada extraordinaria de Alberto. La mirada de Carrete dijo mucha y el Altea se dio cuenta que hay que ganar el partido. Christian intento con un lanzamiento de plenamente 30 metros antes de una clara falta y el enésimo penalti de la temporada. Mi mente era llena de memorias del día en Albatera pero Chole supero al portero (1-0, 30 min). Como siempre Miramar realizaba un gran partido pero, justo como Bryan Robson en México 86, volvió a sufrir una subluxación del hombro derecho, la única buena que puede decir es que a Carrete tiene suerte a tener un Gallego o un Manolo en el banquillo.

Nació la segunda parte y el Almoradi fue mejor-por 10 minutos. El sistema nuevo de Carrete andaba bien, concretamente con Nene como pivote y Marín a su lado. Hay jugadores más rápido que Marín, pero pocos tan listo y sutil con su manejo de la pelota. Es un futbolista a veces un poco difícil a notar (quizá una ventaja) pero como avanza la temporada crecerá en su importancia y Carrete lo sabe. Al mismo tiempo Chole me dio un ejemplo de mi refrán nuevo, lo de ‘cara y cruz’, cuando falló un mano-a-mano intentando un sombrero, pero se recupero a dar un pase de pura calidad a Ángel que marco…. ¡con un sombrero!

Hoy la actuación de todo el equipo fue excelente, particularmente a un genial Ángel, Carrasco y a Pascual también. Lo he dicho cien veces pero Pascual va a ser un jugador importantísimo en el tramo final de la temporada. Solo se merece un poco más de suerte cerca a la portería rival, pero nunca se esconde y da cien por cien como mínimo cada partido. ¡Gracias amigos!

After a three week break forced by Christmas and the descansa for Altea, Preferente football made a welcome return to Garganes and the home team picked up where they had left off with a win over a struggling Almoradi writes Matthew Bell. It is a relief to report on events on the pitch after recent events off it.

Almoradi arrived here on the back of five successive defeats which is puzzling given that last season they completed the double over Altea, looking a very good team in the process and had added players from last year’s promoted CD Thader team. One of those is the robust and skilful centre forward Alberto who nearly got his team off to the perfect start by hooking a shot over his shoulder (3 mins) which looked to all and sundry a goal. Altea ‘keeper Tomas was looking to atone for his error against Javea, Tomas flung himself and acrobatically tipped the ball wide for a corner. This early scare would act as something of a wake-up call as Altea would quickly gain control of the game, in particular in midfield where Nene and Marin would prove increasingly influential. Centre half Christian would send a 30 yard free kick fizzing wide on the half hour, only for the game to turn a matter of moments later when Trofeo Pimpollo winner Angel whipped over a cross which was handballed by an Almoradi defender. The referee saw the incident clearly and thankfully we were the petulant scenes of pre-Christmas as the Almoradi team accepted the decision. Given Altea’s recent record regarding penalties the away team had little to worry about, although this time Chole decided to hit the net (1-0, 37 mins) as opposed to the advertising hoardings. The score would not change before the break, although there was time for captain Miramar’s shoulder to dislocate yet again, leading to him being substituted for Gallego.

Words had evidently been said in the Almoradi dressing room during the break as the visitors emerged the better team, and took control of the game for the first fifteen minutes of the second half, although Tomas was called into action infrequently. Under Carrete’s new system Chole has been pushed further forward and he sent his manager mildly apoplectic when with only the goalkeeper to beat he went for an audacious chip when a more simplistic method would have doubled the lead. That aside, there is no doubt that he is a class act and he was the only player to see Angel’s blind side run (2-0, 65 mins), leaving the best player on the pitch to chip the advancing goalkeeper from 30 yards and the points would remain at the beautiful Garganes arena.
